Goodyear Introduces RangeMax RSD: Its Latest Energy-Efficient Tire for EVs with Higher Load Capacities

Goodyear, a household name in tires, has announced the introduction of its newest energy-efficient tire, the RangeMax RSD, designed to support regional electric fleets with higher cargo capacities. As the number of electric vehicles on roads continues to grow, Goodyear has been anticipating the shift and has already developed several tires of its own to support its customers going all-electric. The RangeMax RSD is Goodyear’s latest addition to its portfolio of EV-centric products, described as its most versatile yet.

The new tire boasts ultra-low rolling resistance technology to maximize efficiency and Treadlock Technology to encourage even wear and get more miles out of each tire. It is Goodyear’s first EV-ready tire that is also compatible with gas- or diesel-powered fleet vehicles.

However, the focus is on the EVs, and Goodyear claims the RangeMax RSD is its best regional tire for energy efficiency, built to endure the higher load capacities many fleet EVs transport daily. The new tire also features three-peak mountain snowflake, mud, and snow designations for performance in tricky driving conditions, premium casing construction, and an enhanced tread pattern to handle high torque while simultaneously promoting even tread wear.

Tom Lippello, Senior Director of Commercial Marketing at Goodyear North America, said, “With the continued growth we’re observing in the regional EV segment, changing powertrains and fleets’ cost-savings and sustainability priorities, Goodyear recognized an opportunity to provide fleets and original equipment manufacturers with a tire designed for the unique needs of these vehicles.”

The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company was founded in 1898, just over a decade after the first automobile was born. With 125 years of experience, the company has become a household name in tires and blimps. Goodyear’s first EV-specific tire built to handle more torque, the EfficientGrip Performance Tire with Electric Drive Technology, was introduced in 2018. Late in 2021, Goodyear also introduced the ElectricDrive GT tire designed as its first replacement tire in North America specifically for EVs like the Tesla Model Y. The company is also exploring more sustainable ways of delivering its tires to EVs that are made with 90% sustainable materials.

The Goodyear RangeMax RSD EV tires will become available in Q2 2023 in size 295/75R22.5. With its latest addition, Goodyear continues to lead the charge in the tire industry, catering to the unique needs of electric vehicles and supporting the transition to a greener future.
