GMC, in collaboration with EarthCruiser Innovations, is developing an electric motorhome concept based on the Hummer EV Pickup. The model, called the GMC Hummer EV Overlander, will be unveiled in concept form in late summer 2023. The companies released a cryptic teaser of the vehicle, showcasing a fully covered rear bed with storage compartments on the sides and solar panels on the roof.
The Hummer EV Pickup’s longer wheelbase and overall length make it an ideal base for the motorhome conversion. The solar panels on the roof could produce enough energy to meet the motorhome’s needs, preserving the EV battery for driving.
The companies did not reveal many details about the project, but called it an “overlanding upfit solution” that would allow customers to “explore the world in a new way”. EarthCruiser plans to offer a similar kit in the future if there is enough interest, as it recently announced a slide-in camper kit for electric pickups compatible with various models.

Lance Gillies, CEO and Founder of EarthCruiser, said that electrification presents exciting opportunities for overland use, such as precise torque control over terrain and ease-of-use, in addition to zero-tailpipe emissions. He added that the collaboration with GM’s team of top-tier EV engineers would help develop an overland vehicle that’s truly made for, and will define, the future of this industry.
As we consider the future of overlanding, we are continuing to look toward key technologies like electrification that will help us explore for decades to come. The GMC Hummer EV Overlander is a significant step in this direction, showcasing the potential of electric motorhomes for adventure seekers. With zero-tailpipe emissions and precise torque control, the vehicle promises to redefine the future of overlanding.
