General Motors will equip its new battery-electric vehicles with native North American Charging Standard (NACS) ports from the 2027 model year, allowing Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC EVs to connect directly to NACS charging stations without an adapter.
The change will extend a transition that began with GM’s adoption of Tesla’s charging standard and follows the company’s current use of adapters to give customers access to Tesla’s Supercharger network.

Native NACS Ports Coming Across GM’s EV Lineup
GM currently has only one model with a factory-integrated NACS charging port: the Cadillac Optiq.
Other GM electric models have used CCS charging ports and require an adapter when accessing Tesla Superchargers. GM customers have had access to the Supercharger network through an adapter since September 2024.
From the 2027 model year, however, all newly introduced GM BEVs will feature native NACS connectivity.
The rollout will cover the company’s Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC brands. The upcoming 2027 Chevrolet Bolt will also be equipped with the new charging interface when it returns to the market later this year.

GM EVs Will Continue to Need CCS Adapters
The move to NACS does not eliminate the need for charging adapters in every situation.
Although NACS has become increasingly common across the U.S. EV market, many public charging stations will continue to provide CCS connections. GM vehicles with native NACS ports may therefore still require a CCS adapter when using compatible charging infrastructure.
The transition is intended to give GM EV owners direct access to NACS-equipped chargers while retaining compatibility with the broader charging network through adapters.
Charging Standard Transition Continues
GM’s move is part of a broader shift among major U.S. automakers toward Tesla’s NACS connector.

The company initially relied on adapters as an interim solution after announcing its adoption of the standard. The introduction of factory-integrated NACS ports from the 2027 model year will move GM’s EV lineup further into the transition.
For GM customers, the change will remove the need for an adapter when using NACS charging stations, including Tesla’s Supercharger network, while CCS adapters will remain relevant for parts of the existing public charging infrastructure.
