German zero-emission commercial vehicle rental firm Hylane has launched a subsidiary in the Netherlands, expanding its operations beyond domestic borders. The new unit, Hylane Netherlands BV, will offer battery and hydrogen-powered trucks to Dutch transport companies under its established pay-per-use model.
The move marks a significant step in Hylane’s international strategy, following its recent decision to broaden its focus from exclusively hydrogen-powered vehicles to include battery-electric trucks. The expansion is supported by the Dutch government’s SWiM (Subsidieregeling Waterstof in Mobiliteit) program, which provides subsidies for zero-emission vehicles and infrastructure.
“By entering the Dutch market, we are transferring our established rental model for zero-emission lorries to another important logistics market,” said Sara Schiffer, Managing Director of both Hylane GmbH and Hylane Netherlands BV. “Many of our customers are active across borders, so it is a logical step for us to expand our offering internationally.”
The Netherlands, home to the Port of Rotterdam, is considered a key logistics hub in Europe, making it a strategic location for Hylane’s expansion. The company has partnered with local hydrogen refuelling infrastructure providers TEAL Mobility, Fountain Fuel, and Vissers to ensure reliable fuel access for its customers. Hylane noted that the SWiM subsidies will cover up to 80% of the additional cost of zero-emission vehicles compared to diesel, with savings passed on to customers via reduced rental rates.
Initial offerings in the Dutch market include three models: the MAN hTGX hydrogen truck with a 600-kilometre range, the Hyundai Xcient fuel cell truck with a range of 400 kilometres, and Daimler Truck’s battery-electric eActros 600, offering up to 500 kilometres of range and fast-charging capabilities.
Rental customers will also receive a fuel card granting access to the country’s hydrogen refuelling network, ensuring consistent vehicle operation.
