Genesis is postponing the launch of its next-generation Electrified G80, with the luxury sedan not expected to return to the U.S. market for several years, according to a report from Korean auto blogger Motorsjason.
The Hyundai-owned premium marque has quietly discontinued the current G80 EV in the U.S., after the 2024 model year, while the updated 2025 version never arrived. Genesis said it would remain responsive to market conditions in its product planning. “The customer is at the core of every decision we make, and we remain flexible as we adapt to ever-changing consumer needs and market conditions,” the company said in a statement.
Motorsjason reported that Genesis is now delaying the next-generation G80 across all powertrains, with the electric version unlikely to debut until at least 2029. An extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variant may also be introduced, though not until closer to the end of the decade. Until then, the company will continue to sell the current gasoline and hybrid models.
The G80 EV has been one of Genesis’ slowest-selling models, making the decision less surprising as the brand shifts focus to larger, high-margin vehicles. Its upcoming GV90, described as an “ultra-luxe” full-size electric SUV inspired by the Neolun concept, is expected to launch in mid-2026. The model will feature premium technologies such as coach doors and adaptive air suspension.
Genesis currently offers the GV60 and Electrified GV70 electric SUVs in the U.S., while the 2025 Electrified G80 remains available in select overseas markets, including Europe.
