Geely Auto’s sub-brand Geely Galaxy is expanding production capacity by renovating the former SAIC-GM Beisheng plant in Shenyang, Liaoning province, as the lineup experiences strong sales growth. Phase three of the plant, originally completed in 2014, is being refurbished to support vehicle output, while phases one and two are set for demolition and redevelopment, according to local media outlet LatePost.
The Beisheng facility was previously one of SAIC-GM’s main production bases in China, manufacturing models including the Buick GL8 with an annual capacity exceeding 300,000 units. Geely Galaxy, launched as a new lineup in February 2023 and upgraded to a brand in March 2024, has seen rapid sales increases this year.

The sub-brand sold 127,476 vehicles in October, marking its third consecutive month of record sales and a 101 percent year-on-year increase. From January to October, Geely Galaxy’s cumulative sales reached 1,002,461 units, surpassing its annual target ahead of schedule.
To further address capacity constraints, Geely is also utilizing idle production capacity at the Wuhan plant of Lotus Technology, its majority-owned luxury EV company, to manufacture new Geely Galaxy models. The company has emphasized maximizing collaborations and reorganizing existing resources rather than building new plants, reflecting a broader strategy to manage global automotive overcapacity.
