Geely Galaxy, a sub-brand of Geely Auto, has expanded its A7 plug-in hybrid lineup with two new lower-priced variants ahead of the model’s official launch expected in August. The move is seen as a strategic effort to enhance competitiveness in China’s growing hybrid sedan market.
The newly added variants feature electric ranges of 70 kilometers and 150 kilometers, with starting prices of RMB 97,800 ($13,620) and RMB 113,800, respectively. These prices mark a reduction of RMB 6,000, or 5.78%, compared to the previous base model, which was priced at RMB 103,800 during the initial pre-sale phase.
To achieve the lower price point, the new versions omit some of the advanced features available in the higher trims. These include Geely’s G-Pilot smart driving system, in-car facial recognition, and a reduced number of cameras and radar sensors. Instead, the vehicles come with basic driver-assistance functions.
Built on Geely’s Global Intelligent New Energy Architecture (GEA), the Galaxy A7 is positioned as a mid-to-large-sized hybrid sedan. It measures 4,918 mm in length with a wheelbase of 2,845 mm and offers two battery options: an 8.5 kWh pack from CALB and an 18.4 kWh pack from CALT, supporting electric-only ranges of 70 km and 150 km. When fully charged and fueled, the vehicle offers a combined range of up to 2,100 kilometers.
Pre-sales for the A7 began on July 11 with five initial variants ranging from RMB 103,800 to RMB 133,800. The new additions are expected to appeal to a wider segment of price-sensitive consumers and position the model more competitively against rivals such as the BYD Qin L DM-i and Seal 06 DM-i, both of which are priced similarly after recent discounts.
Industry analysts estimate that the A7’s final official starting price may reach as low as RMB 90,000, with expectations for monthly sales to exceed 10,000 units based on current market trends and consumer demand for cost-effective plug-in hybrids.
