Chinese carmaker GAC has announced plans to enter the UK passenger electric vehicle (EV) market through a new partnership with Jameel Motors, with first customer deliveries expected by the end of the first quarter in 2026. The move comes as electric vehicles continue to gain traction in the UK, where one in every four new cars sold in June was electric.
Under the partnership, GAC and Jameel Motors will launch two all-electric models in the UK: the AION V, a C-segment SUV, and the AION UT, a compact B-segment hatchback. The AION UT, which debuted in China earlier this year, features a 100 kW front-mounted electric motor and a battery pack ranging between 34.9 kWh and 44.3 kWh. Vehicles will be distributed through selected retail partners in the UK, pending regulatory and antitrust approvals.
The deal marks an expansion for Jameel Motors, which previously focused on distributing electric commercial vehicles. The company already distributes Farizon Auto in the UK and recently secured GAC’s distribution rights in Poland following a competitive selection process.
“GAC’s entry into the UK marks a crucial step in its internationalisation strategy,” said Wayne Wei, President of GAC International. “As we set foot in this dynamic market, GAC is committed to bringing industry-leading products and first-class services to UK consumers.”
Jasmmine Wong, CEO of Jameel Motors, added, “The joint venture with GAC represents a shared vision, and an exciting opportunity to meet the UK’s growing demand for smarter, cleaner passenger vehicles. Led by customer preference and guided by our expertise, we’re committed to staying ahead of trends and delivering first-class solutions that are both innovative and sustainable.”
The partnership coincides with the UK’s reintroduction of EV subsidies, a move expected to further support adoption as automakers position themselves for growth in one of Europe’s most competitive EV markets.
