Taiwanese electronics giant Foxconn is close to finalizing a deal to supply electric buses to Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus, a Japanese commercial vehicle manufacturer owned by Daimler Truck, Japan’s Nikkei newspaper reported on Thursday.
Under the reported agreement, Mitsubishi Fuso would market Foxconn’s Model T electric bus and Model U microbus under its own brand. Both vehicles have been developed by Foxconn as part of its broader push into the electric mobility sector. The two companies are also considering the creation of a new joint venture to manage the operations related to the electric buses, according to the Nikkei report, which cited a source close to Foxconn.
Foxconn previously announced during an investor briefing in April that it aims to introduce the Model T and Model U buses into the Japanese market in 2027. The move would mark a significant step in the company’s efforts to expand its footprint beyond consumer electronics and into electric vehicle production.
Mitsubishi Fuso’s potential collaboration with Foxconn comes as Japanese automakers accelerate efforts to meet the rising demand for electric commercial vehicles and reduce carbon emissions. The partnership may also enhance Foxconn’s credibility in the automotive sector, especially as it continues to develop its EV manufacturing capabilities globally.
