In a strategic move towards bolstering its commitment to the electric vehicle (EV) revolution, Ford Pro, a subsidiary of Ford, has introduced an updated range of EV chargers tailored specifically for fleet applications. With the recent launches of groundbreaking electric models like the Ford F-150 Lightning and E-Transit, the automotive giant is addressing the crucial need for accessible and dependable charging infrastructure for its commercial customers, further solidifying its position in the evolving EV landscape.

The cornerstone of Ford Pro’s new charging lineup is the ‘Series 2’ 80-amp AC charger. What sets this charger apart is its ISO-15118 compatibility, a technical specification that enables plug-and-charge functionality. This innovation streamlines the charging process by eliminating the need for complex authentication procedures. The charger is thoughtfully designed with practicality and security in mind, boasting an integrated RFID reader and an intuitive LCD screen interface.

A standout feature of the ‘Series 2’ charger is the incorporation of detachable charging cables. This strategic addition allows for a cost-effective and efficient solution to cable wear and tear. Instead of replacing the entire charging unit, worn cables can be easily swapped out, saving both time and resources. The charger’s operational range of -40 to 122 Fahrenheit (-40 to 50 degrees Celsius) ensures its optimal performance across all seasons, making it a reliable choice for the diverse climate conditions of North America.

On the direct current front, Ford Pro offers two distinct options: a 180 kW unit and a more potent 240 kW variant. While comprehensive technical details are yet to be fully disclosed, the charging stations are expected to showcase modern design elements with “aluminum pedestals” and a refined aesthetic. The introduction of these high-power DC fast chargers signals Ford Pro’s intention to provide efficient and rapid charging solutions for its future EV lineup.

Interestingly, the charging rates of Ford’s latest electric models, such as the F-150 Lightning equipped with the Extended Range Battery and the Mach-E, currently reach maximum rates of approximately 155 kW and 150 kW, respectively. Although Ford Pro alluded to the concept of charge sharing, industry observers speculate that this could indicate a stepping stone towards enabling even faster charging capabilities for upcoming Ford EVs.

As Ford Pro continues to pave the way for cutting-edge technology integration within the automotive sector, its latest unveiling of enhanced EV chargers underscores the company’s strategic approach to address the evolving needs of commercial fleets in an electrified future.
