Ford Motor has launched its latest driver-assist software update, BlueCruise 1.5, adding hands-free automatic lane changes and enhanced highway navigation features.

The new version is available only on newly built 2025 vehicles equipped with upgraded driver assistance hardware, starting with the Mustang Mach-E GT and Rally trims.

The upgraded BlueCruise 1.5 allows vehicles to autonomously change lanes without driver-initiated signaling—an enhancement over previous versions that required input from the signal stalk. Ford estimates that the new system could automate up to 45% of lane changes in typical highway driving.

Beyond lane changes, BlueCruise 1.5 introduces improvements in lane centering, better vehicle positioning to avoid encroaching traffic, and enhanced performance on curves.

The feature works on pre-mapped highways and provides drivers with audible and visual alerts before executing a lane change, allowing manual override if necessary.

Due to hardware constraints, the update is not compatible with earlier Ford models that run BlueCruise versions 1.3 or below. Unlike past over-the-air updates, version 1.5 requires newer sensors and faster processors not present in older vehicles.

The updated BlueCruise software will come included for one year on select 2025 Mach-E trims. For other trims, Ford offers a purchase activation option at $2,495 or a subscription priced at $49 per month or $495 annually.
