Ford has filed a patent for a novel feature in its electric F-150 Lightning truck—a large projector screen that can be housed within the front trunk, or “frunk,” of the vehicle. This innovative addition could potentially enhance overnight adventures or tailgate parties, providing a unique entertainment experience.
Discovered by Motorauthority, the patent outlines a large screen that extends from a case located towards the rear of the frunk. Additionally, a small projector could be mounted under the pickup’s front grille, projecting onto the screen.
While Ford’s projector screen is estimated to be less than 40 inches in size, rival Rivian previously patented a larger screen for its R1T electric truck, housed within the gear tunnel. Rivian’s design also included a drawer housing the projector and wireless speakers.
It is likely that Ford’s projector setup, similar to Rivian’s, would operate using the F-150 Lightning’s battery pack.
Ford has also patented other frunk-related features for its EVs, including a climate-controlled frunk with a special cooler box, a pull-down shade, and a bench doubling as a work surface.
However, it’s important to note that while these patents showcase Ford’s innovative ideas, their actual implementation in the F-150 Lightning remains uncertain.
