Under the terms of the agreement, FinDreams will supply BorgWarner with blade battery cells while granting the company intellectual property rights related to the production and design of blade battery packs.

Highlighting the scope of collaboration, the BYD battery unit aims to position itself as BorgWarner’s exclusive supplier of blade battery cells, leveraging lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry for enhanced performance and sustainability.

According to the statement, BorgWarner intends to integrate FinDreams’ cells into LFP battery packs tailored for commercial vehicles across Europe, select parts of the Asia-Pacific region, and potentially the Americas, subject to specific circumstances.

Following the signing ceremony, discussions between the two entities have centered around the potential utilization of LFP batteries in commercial vehicles overseas, underscoring a shared commitment to advancing electrification efforts on a global scale.

In alignment with this strategic partnership, FinDreams pledges to collaborate extensively with BorgWarner, leveraging its expertise to drive the electrification of commercial vehicles in international markets.

BorgWarner, headquartered in Michigan and boasting strong ties to China’s automotive industry, recently announced its foray into manufacturing eMotor rotor and stator components for Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV), further solidifying its footprint in the electric mobility sector.

For BYD, the collaboration with BorgWarner represents a pivotal milestone in its battery business expansion strategy, extending its reach beyond internal customers to external partners. While BYD’s batteries have primarily fueled its own new energy vehicle (NEV) lineup, this partnership signals a strategic shift towards broader market penetration.

Earlier this month, FAW-FinDreams, a joint venture between FinDreams and China FAW Group, commenced production and initiated supply of battery packs for FAW’s prestigious Hongqi-branded models. With a planned capacity of 45 GWh, FAW-FinDreams is set to play a significant role in BYD’s battery ecosystem, leveraging the acclaimed blade battery technology to drive innovation and sustainability across the automotive landscape.
