FAW-BYD Battery Plant Launches Operations in Changchun, Northeast China

The inaugural phase of the FAW Fudi New Energy Power Battery Project has officially commenced operations in Changchun, marking a significant milestone in the collaboration between China FAW Group Co., Ltd. and BYD Co., Ltd.

Positioned in the Changchun Automobile Economic and Technological Development Zone, this venture represents a pioneering move into the realm of new energy vehicles, constituting the primary strategic base for new energy vehicle power batteries in Northeast China.

Launched in early 2022, FAW Fudi New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. spans over an expansive 370,000 square meters, with a construction space proportionate to its considerable size. The project, backed by a robust budget of 18 billion yuan, envisions a substantial 45GWh production capacity across three phases. Each phase is earmarked to contribute 15GWh, emphasizing a commitment to innovation and sustainability.

The project’s initial products, featuring BYD’s advanced blade battery technology, are poised to make a significant impact in the market. This innovation, focused on safety, endurance, and longevity, addresses common challenges faced by power batteries. The design philosophy emphasizes efficiency and integration without compromising module flexibility.

January’s performance metrics underscore the initiative’s momentum, with FAW Hongqi experiencing an 82.9% year-on-year surge in sales. The spotlight is on Hongqi’s new electric offerings, the EH7 sedan, and EHS7 SUV, positioned to redefine the landscape of medium and large electric vehicles. While current models source batteries from CATL and FAW, the venture’s forthcoming products aim to introduce fresh elements to the market.
