The FIA World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) has approved new technical and homologation regulations for Junior and Senior e-karting, marking a major step in the global expansion of electric karting.
The announcement came during the Council’s third meeting of the year, held on October 16 via videoconference, and represents a significant evolution in the FIA’s efforts to promote sustainable and innovative forms of motor sport.

The newly approved regulations build upon the e-karting mini category introduced in 2023 and establish standardized guidelines for e-drivetrain systems, voltage limits, and powertrain integration. Both Junior and Senior e-karting classes will be limited to 60 volts, with centrally mounted batteries positioned below the steering column to improve balance and safety.
The FIA has also set power limits for the new categories—23kW for Junior class karts and 28kW for Senior class—based on extensive testing conducted by the FIA Technical and Safety Departments over the past year.
The introduction of these classes opens the door to new international competitions, events, and championships dedicated to electric karting. By expanding homologation to include electric drivetrains, the FIA aims to enhance accessibility, attract new participants, and reinforce the role of e-karting as an entry point into professional racing while supporting sustainability goals across the sport.

FIA Karting Commission President Akbar Ebrahim highlighted the importance of this milestone, stating that “e-karting presents a significant opportunity to contribute to the continued growth of global karting.” He added that the new regulations will “unlock fresh possibilities for events and championships around the world.” Ebrahim also noted that with the launch of these classes, alongside the inaugural Arrive and Drive Continental Championships and the largest FIA Karting calendar to date, “2026 is shaping up to be a golden year for karting.”
