Fastned and Places for London have opened their first ultra-fast electric vehicle charging hub at Hatton Cross near Heathrow Airport, marking the beginning of a wider rollout that could see up to 25 charging hubs developed across the UK capital.
The new facility features 12 ultra-rapid charging bays capable of delivering up to 400kW and is strategically located near Heathrow Airport as well as major transport corridors including the M25, M4 and A30.
To mark the launch, drivers will be offered free charging between June 15 and June 19.
Strategic Location for Drivers and Fleets
Designed to serve a broad range of users, the Hatton Cross hub caters to private motorists, taxi operators and commercial fleet vehicles travelling through one of London’s busiest transport corridors.
The facility includes extra-wide charging bays, two accessible charging spaces, weather-protected solar canopies, and 24-hour access and security. Fastned said the site has been specifically designed to support high traffic volumes and encourage wider electric vehicle adoption among drivers who require fast and convenient charging solutions.
First Step in Larger London Expansion
The Hatton Cross site is the first project delivered through Fastned’s partnership with Places for London, Transport for London’s property company.
The joint venture plans to develop up to 25 ultra-fast charging hubs across London in the coming years to help address growing demand for EV charging infrastructure.
Tom Hurst, Country Director of Fastned UK, described the opening as a major milestone for the partnership.
“Positioned on a key route near Heathrow, this hub is built for constant movement and for the switch to electric to happen at pace.”
“With ultra-rapid charging, weather-protected bays and effortless access, this site is designed around people on the go.”
“Whether you’re commuting, visiting, running a fleet or living with or without a driveway, we’re making charging simpler, faster and more reliable for everyone.”
Supporting London’s EV Ambitions
London continues to accelerate investment in charging infrastructure as part of broader efforts to reduce transport emissions and support the transition to electric mobility.
Mete Coban, Deputy Mayor for Environment and Energy, said the new charging hub supports the city’s long-term electrification goals.
“This is the first of 25 new ultra-rapid charging hubs planned across London, helping make charging easier and more convenient, particularly for people who don’t have access to off-street parking.”
“These new hubs also represent important progress towards delivering on the Mayor’s manifesto commitment to support the rollout of up to 40,000 electric vehicle charge points across London by 2030.”
More Sites Progressing Through Development
Several additional locations are already advancing through the planning and approval process. Fastned and Places for London have secured planning permission for a flagship 36-bay charging hub at Hanger Lane and an eight-bay facility at East Finchley Underground Station. Additional sites are progressing through planning in Newham, Haringey, and Barking and Dagenham, while seven further locations are expected to be submitted for borough review before the end of 2025.
The expanding network is expected to improve charging accessibility across London, particularly for drivers without access to home charging facilities, while supporting the city’s wider transition to zero-emission transportation.
