Fantic, an Italian marque, made headlines in January 2021 when it acquired Motori Minarelli from Yamaha. This acquisition not only brought the brand back under Italian ownership but also paved the way for Fantic to transition its production to electric mobility models. After three years of hard work, Fantic and Motori Minarelli are finally ready to start production on the Issimo City electric scooter.
To celebrate this milestone, the companies invited several important figures to their Calderara di Reno factory, including the Emilia-Romagna Region Economic Development Councilor Vincenzo Colla, Bologna mayor Marco Panieri, and the Calderara di Reno mayor Giampiero Falzone.
Colla expressed his admiration for Fantic’s electric project, saying that the Emilia-Romagna Region had always believed in the relaunch of the historic Bolognese brand Motori Minarelli. He also praised Fantic’s industrial plan, which focuses on sustainable innovation and job creation, and stated that the company is among the beneficiaries of regional law 14 on attractiveness. “For this reason, today we are particularly pleased to be able to greet the official launch of the production of the new 100% electric scooter,” he said.

The Calderara di Reno factory, based in Bologna, has the capacity to manufacture up to 100 units of the Issimo City electric scooter per day. This means that Fantic and Motori Minarelli can produce up to 20,000 units in the first year alone. The Issimo City was introduced at EICMA 2022 and includes two variants, the L1 and L3, with maximum speeds of 45 km/h (28 mph) and 65 km/h (40 mph), respectively. Both models are powered by a Dell’Orto 3-kilowatt motor and come with a standard 2.2-kilowatt-hour battery that provides a range of 72 km (44.8 miles). The 4.4 kWh battery option expands the range to 140 km (87 miles).
According to Motori Minarelli General Manager Vittorino Filippas, people’s sensitivity towards more sustainable mobility will further accelerate the demand for light mobility. “Fantic Motor and Motori Minarelli do not want to be caught unprepared for the opportunity this challenge presents us with,” he said. “Indeed, as early as 2023, 50% of vehicle production will be entirely electric.”
