Fang Cheng Bao, a sub-brand of Chinese automaker BYD, introduced new variants for two of its SUV models on Monday in a move to strengthen its position in the competitive electric and hybrid vehicle market. The updates come after the brand achieved record sales last month.

At its fall product launch event, the company unveiled long-range versions of the Bao 5 SUV and five-seat options for the larger Bao 8 SUV. The additions expand Fang Cheng Bao’s current portfolio to four models — the Bao 5 and Bao 8, which target off-road consumers, and the Tai 3 and Tai 7, designed for family use.

The Bao 5 Long Range features a larger 47.8-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, compared with the 31.8-kWh pack in the previous Smart Driving Edition. The new model offers a CLTC-rated electric-only range of 210 kilometers and a combined range of 1,310 kilometers when factoring in both fuel and electric power.

It comes in four trims priced between RMB 269,800 ($37,880) and RMB 329,800, with the two higher-end versions equipped with Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 4 smart driving system, while the other two use BYD’s in-house God’s Eye C system.

Fang Cheng Bao also introduced a five-seat configuration for the Bao 8 SUV, priced at RMB 379,800 and RMB 399,800. Both versions include Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 4 system and feature a 36.8-kWh battery providing a CLTC electric range of 125 kilometers. Like the six- and seven-seat variants, the Bao 8 achieves a combined CLTC range of 1,200 kilometers.

By expanding its Bao lineup with new configurations and improved range capabilities, Fang Cheng Bao aims to sustain its recent sales growth and attract a broader segment of buyers in China’s fast-evolving new energy vehicle market.
