BYD has officially introduced the Qin L EV, a pure electric sedan built on its e-Platform 3.0 Evo vehicle architecture. Designed to appeal to young buyers, the model comes standard with free driver assistance features and advanced smart driving capabilities.

Dimensions and Design

The Qin L EV measures 4,720 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,495 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm. Powertrain and Battery Options

BYD offers the Qin L EV in three variants, with starting prices of RMB 119,800 ($16,530), RMB 129,800, and RMB 139,800. The sedan is powered by a single-motor, rear-wheel drive system and comes with different battery configurations:

  • The entry-level model features a 46.08-kWh battery pack with a CLTC range of 470 km.
  • The two higher-priced variants are equipped with a 56.64-kWh battery pack, offering an extended CLTC range of 545 km.

The electric motor specifications vary by variant:

  • The base model delivers 110 kW of peak power and 220 Nm of peak torque.
  • The higher trims generate 160 kW of peak power and 330 Nm of peak torque.

In terms of acceleration, the model can go from 0 to 50 km/h in 4.1 seconds for the entry-level version and 3.1 seconds for the more powerful variants. However, BYD has not disclosed the 0-100 km/h acceleration times.

Charging and Smart Features

The Qin L EV supports fast charging, enabling the battery to charge from 30% to 80% in just 24 minutes. The vehicle also comes standard with BYD’s God’s Eye C smart driving system, which includes the DiPilot 100 driving solution. The hardware package consists of 12 cameras, 5 millimeter-wave radars, and 12 ultrasonic radars.

The smart driving system offers advanced driver assistance features, including:

  • NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) for highway and expressway driving.
  • Automatic parking and remote parking capabilities.

Notably, the God’s Eye C system does not use LiDAR, instead relying on a camera-based vision solution to keep costs lower for affordable models.

Additional Features and Market Positioning

The Qin L EV comes equipped with an on-board refrigerator that can cool to -6°C and heat up to 50°C, catering to modern consumer convenience. The model competes in China’s electric sedan market, offering a more affordable alternative to Tesla’s Model 3.

For BYD, the launch of the Qin L EV is expected to further strengthen sales within the Qin family lineup, which includes the Qin L DM-i, Qin Plus DM-i, and Qin Plus EV. In 2024, the Qin family recorded 732,252 unit sales, accounting for 17.14% of BYD’s annual NEV sales. In the first two months of this year, sales reached 79,315 units, reflecting a 108.95% year-on-year growth.
