BYD has introduced the Atto 8 at the Paris Motor Show, expanding its European electric vehicle lineup with a premium seven-seat SUV equipped with the company’s latest battery and flash-charging technology. The European-market model is based on the BYD Tang L sold in China and will serve as the flagship of the brand’s European SUV range.

Unveiled on October 12, the Atto 8 is scheduled to enter European sales in the first quarter of 2027. It will be available in two configurations: the Design rear-wheel-drive version and the Excellence all-wheel-drive version.

Both variants feature a 115 kWh battery pack and are the first BYD-branded vehicles in Europe to combine the second-generation Blade Battery with the company’s next-generation flash-charging system.

BYD Atto 8 Price and Versions

BYD has confirmed two powertrain configurations for the European market: a rear-wheel-drive model focused on range and an all-wheel-drive version offering higher output and faster acceleration.

Variant Drivetrain Maximum Power WLTP Range
Design Rear-wheel drive (RWD) 340 kW (456 hp) 405 miles (652 km)
Excellence All-wheel drive (AWD) 570 kW 374 miles (602 km)

European pricing has not yet been announced. BYD plans to begin sales in the first quarter of 2027.

Battery and Flash-Charging Technology

The Atto 8 introduces BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery to the company’s European-branded vehicle lineup. Both versions use a 115 kWh battery pack, paired with flash-charging technology designed to substantially reduce charging stops.

According to BYD, the system can charge the battery from 10% to 70% in five minutes and from 10% to 97% in nine minutes under the specified charging conditions.

The company has also reported cold-weather charging performance. At minus 30 degrees Celsius, the Atto 8 can charge from 20% to 97% in 12 minutes. This test begins at a 20% state of charge rather than the 10% starting point used in the standard charging claim.

Actual charging times will depend on factors such as charger output, battery temperature, and operating conditions.

To support the rollout, BYD intends to install 3,000 flash-charging stations across Europe by the end of 2027. The planned network expansion is intended to accompany the arrival of vehicles equipped with the technology.

Electric Motor Performance and Driving Range

The rear-wheel-drive Atto 8 Design produces a maximum output of 340 kW, equivalent to approximately 456 horsepower. Its WLTP combined driving range reaches 405 miles, or around 652 kilometers.

The Excellence variant adds a front electric motor to create an all-wheel-drive configuration. Combined system output rises to 570 kW, enabling acceleration from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.6 seconds.

The additional performance comes with a slightly shorter WLTP combined range of 374 miles, equivalent to approximately 602 kilometers.

Both range figures are based on the WLTP testing standard used in Europe. Real-world range may vary depending on driving speed, temperature, terrain, vehicle load, and climate-control use.

Dimensions and Seven-Seat Layout

The BYD Atto 8 measures 5,040 mm long, 1,996 mm wide, and 1,760 mm tall. These dimensions match those of the Tang L introduced in China in 2025.

Its three-row cabin accommodates seven occupants, positioning the SUV for families and buyers seeking a large electric vehicle with flexible passenger and cargo capacity.

Dimension Specification
Length 5,040 mm
Width 1,996 mm
Height 1,760 mm
Seating capacity 7 occupants
Seat rows 3
Battery capacity 115 kWh

Interior Technology and Comfort Features

The Atto 8’s cabin centers on a 15.6-inch touchscreen that supports Google navigation, a voice assistant, and an app store. These features provide access to navigation and connected functions through the central infotainment system.

Comfort equipment includes heating, ventilation, and massage functions for the front seats and the outer seats in the second row. The configuration is intended to improve comfort for occupants across the first two rows.

BYD has also designed the Atto 8 around the storage needs of a seven-seat SUV, with different cargo arrangements depending on how many seats are occupied.

Cargo Capacity and Storage

With all seven seats in use, the Atto 8 provides 270 liters of luggage capacity. Folding the second and third rows increases the available space to 1,960 liters.

A separate 136-liter front trunk, or frunk, adds storage space for smaller bags and other items.

Storage Configuration Capacity
All seats in use 270 liters
Second and third rows folded 1,960 liters
Front trunk (frunk) 136 liters

These storage options give the Atto 8 flexibility for everyday family use, longer journeys, and trips requiring additional luggage space.

How the European Atto 8 Differs From the BYD Tang L

The Atto 8 is the European-market counterpart of the BYD Tang L, which went on sale in China in April 2025. The Chinese model was offered in both battery-electric and plug-in hybrid configurations.

At the Tang L’s initial launch, its battery-electric version featured a 100.5 kWh battery and a 1,000-volt high-voltage platform. The European Atto 8 instead uses a larger 115 kWh battery and introduces BYD’s next-generation flash-charging system to the brand’s European lineup.

This combination of battery capacity, charging performance, and three-row seating gives the Atto 8 a distinct position in BYD’s European portfolio.

Conclusion

The BYD Atto 8 brings a larger battery, rapid charging, and seven-seat practicality to the brand’s European electric SUV range. Its Design version prioritizes driving range, while the Excellence variant combines all-wheel drive with 570 kW of maximum system output and a 0–100 km/h time of 4.6 seconds.

The vehicle’s market prospects will depend partly on its eventual European pricing and the development of BYD’s planned flash-charging network. With sales scheduled for the first quarter of 2027, the Atto 8 is set to become an important addition to the company’s premium electric SUV offering.
