BYD has officially launched the Da Tang EV, the first full-size flagship electric SUV in its Dynasty series, as the Chinese automaker strengthens its presence in the premium electric vehicle market.
The new model, also known as the Great Tang, arrives with a starting price of 239,900 yuan ($35,500), undercutting its previously announced pre-sale pricing and positioning it as a direct challenger to a growing number of premium electric and extended-range SUVs in China.
Four variants with up to 950 km of range
The Da Tang EV is available in four configurations.
The entry-level rear-wheel-drive model with an 800-kilometer range starts at 239,900 yuan, while the 950-kilometer rear-wheel-drive version is priced at 269,900 yuan. The all-wheel-drive model offering an 850-kilometer range starts at 289,900 yuan, while the flagship variant is priced at 309,900 yuan.
BYD said the model has received more than 150,000 pre-orders since pre-sales opened during the 2026 Beijing Auto Show in April.
The company claims the Da Tang EV offers the longest driving range of any mass-produced full-size electric SUV globally, reaching up to 950 kilometers on a single charge.
Large dimensions and premium positioning
The Da Tang EV measures 5,263 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,790 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,130 mm.
Its size places it firmly within China’s rapidly expanding full-size SUV segment and allows BYD to compete directly with premium offerings from domestic rivals.
The launch fills a gap in BYD’s product portfolio in the 300,000-yuan price range while creating a clearer hierarchy alongside the company’s Denza and Yangwang premium brands.
Second-generation Blade Battery and flash charging
The SUV is powered by BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery technology.
The entry-level version uses a 105.7-kWh battery pack, while the higher-spec models are equipped with a larger 130.1-kWh battery.
The Da Tang EV adopts BYD’s latest 1,000-volt high-voltage architecture and supports the company’s flash-charging technology.
According to BYD, the system can recharge the battery from 10% to 97% in just nine minutes under optimal conditions.
The company said it has already deployed 6,682 flash-charging stations across 321 cities in China to support the rollout of next-generation EVs.
Performance-focused drivetrain options
Customers can choose between single-motor rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive configurations.
The rear-wheel-drive versions deliver either 300 kW or 370 kW of power, while the dual-motor variant produces a combined output of 585 kW.
The all-wheel-drive model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, while the flagship rear-wheel-drive version completes the sprint in 6.2 seconds.
Top speed is rated at 250 km/h.
Advanced chassis and handling technology
The Da Tang EV introduces several advanced chassis technologies designed to improve comfort and maneuverability despite its large size.
The vehicle comes equipped with BYD’s DiSus-A dual-chamber air suspension system, which supports up to 100 mm of adjustable ride height and includes road-preview capabilities.
A rear-wheel steering system with a steering angle of up to seven degrees allows the SUV to achieve a turning radius of only 5.2 meters.
The system also enables crab-walk functionality, helping improve maneuverability in tight spaces.
Equipped with God’s Eye 5.0 driver assistance
BYD has fitted the Da Tang EV with its latest God’s Eye 5.0 advanced driver-assistance system.
The SUV comes standard with a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor and supports assisted driving functions for both urban and highway environments.
The launch further strengthens BYD’s push into intelligent driving technologies, an increasingly important battleground among Chinese automakers.
Seven-seat luxury-focused interior
Inside, the Da Tang EV adopts a 2+2+3 seating configuration, making it one of the first Chinese full-size electric SUVs to feature this layout.
The front row is equipped with dual zero-gravity seats, while the second row features aviation-style zero-pressure seats designed to maximize passenger comfort.
The spacious interior is intended to appeal to large families and premium buyers seeking both luxury and practicality.
Intensifying competition in China’s premium SUV market
The Da Tang EV enters one of the most competitive segments in China’s EV market.
Its primary rivals include large SUVs such as Leapmotor’s D19 and Nio sub-brand Onvo’s L90.
The model is also expected to challenge premium offerings from Li Auto and Huawei-backed Aito, both of which have established strong positions in the large family SUV category.
With its combination of long range, ultra-fast charging, advanced chassis technology, and premium interior features, BYD is positioning the Da Tang EV as a flagship product capable of competing across multiple segments of China’s rapidly evolving electric vehicle market.
