Toyota has announced a refreshed version of its bZ4X electric SUV for the 2026 model year, introducing several improvements in battery technology, performance, and interior features.
The updated model, which will be available in both Europe and the United States, aims to enhance the vehicle’s competitiveness in a growing market dominated by the Tesla Model Y and other similarly sized electric SUVs.

One of the most notable updates is the introduction of a new 57.7 kWh battery pack, available exclusively in the base front-wheel-drive variant. This model is powered by a 165 hp (123 kW) electric motor and offers a WLTP range of 276 miles (445 km).
Additionally, Toyota has introduced a larger 73.1 kWh battery pack in two higher-performance variants. The mid-tier version features a 221 hp (165 kW) motor and delivers a range of 356 miles (573 km), while the all-wheel-drive flagship model boasts 338 hp (252 kW) and a range of 323 miles (520 km). Toyota claims this top-tier variant can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 5.1 seconds.

Toyota says the energy density of both battery packs has been improved, with an increased number of cells and upgraded electric motors incorporating silicon carbide semiconductors. Other enhancements include a new battery pre-conditioning system designed to optimize charging efficiency in cold weather.
The onboard AC charger on higher-end models now supports 22 kW, up from the previous 11 kW, while peak DC fast-charging speed remains at 150 kW—slightly lower than some competing models. Toyota estimates a 10-80% charge can be achieved in approximately 30 minutes. Additionally, the bZ4X’s towing capacity has been doubled to 3,306 lbs (1,500 kg).

Exterior changes are minimal, focusing primarily on aerodynamic refinements at the front end. Inside, Toyota has revamped the cabin with a more streamlined digital instrument cluster and a new 14-inch infotainment screen, which now integrates climate controls, eliminating the separate physical switches from the previous model.
