Energiesysteme Groß (ESG-Solar) has commissioned a new megawatt charging park for electric trucks in Niestetal near Kassel, Germany, combining high-power charging with on-site solar generation and battery storage to support heavy-duty electric transport.
Located near the A7 motorway, one of Europe’s busiest north-south freight corridors, the facility is designed to provide charging power of up to 1,000 kW, making it one of Germany’s first publicly accessible truck charging sites equipped with the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) standard.

Construction of the charging park began in December 2025.
Solar Power and Battery Storage Support Charging
To help supply the charging hub with renewable electricity, ESG-Solar has integrated the site with its own 2.1 MWp solar park located at the company’s industrial facility.
The renewable generation is supported by a 1,000 kWh battery energy storage system, allowing excess solar electricity produced during the day to be stored and later used for vehicle charging during periods of higher demand or after sunset.
The company said the combination of solar generation, battery storage and high-power charging is intended to improve energy efficiency while supporting the growing adoption of battery-electric trucks.

MCS Charging for Trucks and EVs
The charging park includes three truck charging bays, each equipped with Alpitronic’s HYC1000 charging system.
Each installation consists of a central power unit connected to three dispensers capable of delivering up to 1,000 kW through MCS connectors and up to 480 kW through CCS connections, allowing compatibility with current and future commercial electric vehicles.
Unlike many motorway truck charging facilities that use drive-through layouts, the charging bays require vehicles to reverse out after charging.
The site also provides four high-power charging points for passenger electric vehicles using Alpitronic Hypercharger systems.

To encourage adoption, ESG-Solar said new contract customers will be able to charge at a promotional rate of €0.299 per kilowatt-hour through the end of 2026, significantly below typical public DC fast-charging prices in Germany.
Expanding Into Heavy-Duty Charging
ESG-Solar, which specializes in commercial photovoltaic installations and utility-scale solar parks, said the project represents its expansion into charging infrastructure for heavy-duty electric vehicles.
Managing Director Björn Groß said electrification offers significant opportunities for the freight transport sector.
“Electric mobility holds enormous economic potential, particularly in heavy-duty transport.”
He added that battery-electric trucks are expected to become increasingly common over the next decade.
“By 2035, as much as 50 per cent of trucks could already be electric.”
The project received financial support from the German state of Hesse through its “Strom bewegt” (“Electricity Moves”) funding program.
Representatives from the logistics industry, academia and regional government attended the facility’s opening, where discussions focused on the economics of battery-electric trucks and the development of charging infrastructure.
