Tesla CEO Elon Musk has reaffirmed that the company plans to begin mass production of its all-electric Class 8 truck, the Tesla Semi, in 2026. Musk shared the update on social media platform X over the weekend, responding to skepticism about the truck’s feasibility due to battery limitations.

The Tesla Semi was first revealed in late 2017, with initial deliveries beginning in December 2022. Since then, Tesla has supplied only a limited number of Semis while constructing a dedicated factory adjacent to its Giga Nevada facility. Recent drone footage shows steady progress in building outfitting and equipment installation, moving closer to full production capability.

Musk’s comment on X, posted with a laughing emoji, read: “Tesla Semi will be in volume production next year.” The factory near Giga Nevada is expected to eventually produce up to 50,000 units annually, although reaching full capacity may take time.

Earlier this year, Dan Priestley, head of the Tesla Semi program, indicated preparations for volume manufacturing are underway, with an eye on ramping up production over the coming quarters. Tesla’s push to scale the Semi underscores the company’s broader ambitions in electrifying heavy-duty transportation.
