The fully electric Mini Cooper Electric has received a second major safety accolade in 2025, after being named Euro NCAP’s “Best in Class for Safest City & Supermini of the Year 2025.”

The award follows a five-star Euro NCAP rating published in March, when the model — tested as the three-door Mini Cooper E — achieved strong results across adult occupant, child occupant and active safety categories. Euro NCAP said the rating applies across the Cooper E production range covered by the tested VINs.

According to the safety body, the Mini Cooper E scored 89% for adult occupant protection, 87% for child occupant protection, 77% for vulnerable road users and 79% for safety assist systems. Euro NCAP reported that the passenger compartment remained stable in frontal offset testing, with good protection for knees and femurs of both front occupants. Side impact tests, including the pole test, achieved full points for protection of critical body areas.

Rear impact testing showed good whiplash protection for both front and rear occupants, Euro NCAP said, while post-crash provisions include advanced eCall, multi-collision braking and rescue information compliant with international standards. The safety body also noted that Mini demonstrated doors and windows could be opened in a submergence scenario to support occupant escape.

In child occupant testing, Euro NCAP used a Britax Römer KidFix i-Size restraint for the six-year-old dummy and an Osann Up seat for the 10-year-old dummy. Due to limited rear-seat space, additional assessment methods were applied, with results indicating good or adequate protection in frontal and side impacts. The front passenger airbag can be disabled to allow a rearward-facing child seat, although child presence detection is not fitted as standard.

For vulnerable road users, Euro NCAP said protection for the pelvis and legs was strong, while head protection was mixed, with weaker results around the windscreen pillars. In active safety testing, the Mini scored highly for autonomous emergency braking for pedestrians and cyclists, while lane support systems achieved maximum points in their category.

Euro NCAP said the combination of crash performance and driver-assistance capability placed the electric Mini Cooper at the top of the City and Supermini class for 2025, reflecting continued progress in safety standards for small electric vehicles.
