The Rimac Nevera, an all-electric hypercar, recently participated in a carwow drag race, an event featured on the world’s largest automotive YouTube channel, where cars compete head-to-head over the quarter-mile and beyond. During the race, the Nevera managed to outperform the Red Bull Racing RB8 and the McMurtry Spéirling, winning two out of the three standing-start races.
The Nevera, known for its speed, is a two-seater road-legal GT hypercar designed not only for impressive acceleration but also for providing a comfortable driving experience with ample space for two occupants and their belongings. On the other hand, the Red Bull Racing RB8 and McMurtry Spéirling are specialized track-focused vehicles, engineered for high-performance racing.
During the event, the Nevera showcased its acceleration capabilities and set impressive records, continuing its streak of breaking over 20 performance records this year alone, including benchmarks for 0-60mph, 0-100mph, and 0-186mph acceleration.
The race was conducted on one of the UK’s longest runways, where the Nevera faced stiff competition from the McMurtry Spéirling with its active aero fan for optimal traction and the RB8 driven by Red Bull Racing reserve driver, Liam Lawson. Despite a strong start from the lighter competitors, the Nevera’s independent four-wheel-drive system, powered by individual motors, allowed it to catch up and finish just ahead of both opponents at the ¼-mile mark. The Spéirling won the second race, but the Nevera demonstrated its capabilities once again during the final ¼-mile race and the rolling race from 50mph to ½-mile, securing the title of the overall champion and the fastest car to ever participate in a carwow drag race.
Mate Rimac, the Founder and CEO of Rimac Group, expressed his pride in the Nevera’s performance, attributing it to years of dedicated work ensuring that the car is not only powerful but also highly usable, making it suitable for everyday driving as well as thrilling races.
Apart from its success in drag races, the Nevera also made an impressive appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed hillclimb, setting a remarkable time in the Supercar Shootout. This achievement solidified its position as the fastest electric production car to tackle the famous hillclimb and the fastest production car overall in 2023. Rimac Group plans to attempt more record-breaking feats later in the year.
The carwow drag race, featuring three record-breaking cars, including the dominant F1 machine, provided viewers with an exciting and memorable competition. Mat Watson, the Presenter at carwow, acknowledged the Rimac team’s efforts and congratulated them on their achievement.
