Germany’s EDAG Group has signed a letter of intent with Israeli eVTOL manufacturer AIR to jointly develop multiple variants of the AIR ONE electric aircraft, including key structural components and modular configurations designed for cargo and passenger transport. The agreement expands on two years of cooperation between the companies and marks a strategic move toward full-scale production of AIR’s upcoming aircraft.
Under the agreement, EDAG will develop and manufacture the main structural assemblies for AIR ONE, including the aircraft’s fuselage, engine arms, and innovative folding wings. The engineering firm will also design the flexible modular cabin space, intended to accommodate either passengers or cargo. This collaboration aims to enhance the versatility of the aircraft, enabling it to serve both private owners and logistics operators.
The AIR ONE will initially launch as a fully electric model offering a one-hour flight time and a payload capacity of up to 250 kilograms. According to EDAG, a hybrid variant is under evaluation and could extend the operational range up to 450 kilometers. AIR has reportedly begun assembly and testing of prototype units, incorporating structural components already delivered. A piloted version of the AIR ONE is scheduled to become available for private use by 2026, while an uncrewed cargo model is expected to be ready for early launch customers later this year.
EDAG CEO Harald Keller said the partnership highlights the firm’s ability to provide practical, modular solutions for next-generation mobility. “The collaboration with AIR emphasises our commitment to delivering high-performance, modular solutions for forward-looking mobility concepts, even beyond the road,” Keller noted. “The project is a good example of engineering for practical applications that combines precision, flexibility and efficiency.”
AIR CEO Rani Plaut said the alliance will help scale the company’s production ambitions. “EDAG’s expertise in the design and production of complex structural assemblies allows us to take a major step toward making advanced air mobility available to the masses,” Plaut said. “This partnership paves the way for streamlined, scalable production of the AIR ONE and enables faster delivery to meet growing consumer and business demand for accessible air transportation.”
In a separate announcement, AIR disclosed that it had doubled its team size over the past year, delivered its first cargo prototype ahead of schedule, and amassed 2,400 pre-orders for the piloted AIR ONE variant. The letter of intent with EDAG marks a move toward full-series development, reinforcing both companies’ commitment to accelerating the adoption of electric aviation.
