Austrian charging technology developer Easelink has selected Chinese electronics manufacturer Luxshare as its first technology licensing partner in China. The companies will work together to industrialise and introduce Easelink’s Matrix Charging system in the Chinese automotive market.
The agreement covers the development and market introduction of automated conductive charging technology. Easelink said the partners are already collaborating on initial projects with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in China to explore integration into future vehicle platforms.
The partnership forms part of Easelink’s strategy to expand through regional licensing and manufacturing partners rather than relying solely on direct market entry.
How Matrix Charging Works
Matrix Charging is designed to connect an electric vehicle to a charging point automatically when the vehicle is parked in the appropriate position.
The system uses a charging plate installed on the vehicle’s underbody and a corresponding charging pad mounted on the ground. Once aligned, a connector lowers from the vehicle to establish a physical electrical connection with the floor-mounted pad.
Unlike inductive charging, which transfers energy wirelessly, Matrix Charging uses conductive power transfer. Easelink’s approach is intended to reduce energy losses associated with wireless transmission while removing the need for drivers to manually connect a charging cable.
The system is intended for integration into vehicle platforms and charging infrastructure, including applications where automated charging could support more frequent or unattended charging sessions.
Local Partnership Supports Chinese Market Entry
Easelink said cooperation with a Chinese industrial partner is intended to address local manufacturing and automotive integration requirements. Under the agreement, the technology is marketed in China as Luxshare Matrix Charging.
The company also plans to expand its team in China to support technical coordination and projects involving Luxshare and Chinese automakers.
Easelink has identified the development of autonomous vehicles and demand for automated convenience features as factors supporting interest in automated charging. However, the companies have not disclosed specific vehicle models, production volumes or commercial launch dates for the Chinese market.
Luxshare Highlights Interoperability and Standards
Luxshare General Manager Harvey Yuan said the agreement could provide opportunities to work with additional customers and participate in the development of common technical standards.
“We see great potential in our collaboration with Easelink, allowing us to tap into new customer segments […] Furthermore, we are aware of the critical role that standardization of new interfaces plays and therefore are committed to contribute to the corresponding standardizing efforts in the Matrix Charging Interest Group to secure interoperability and a broad market acceptance.”
The Matrix Charging Interest Group (MCIG) was established in late 2025 to support standardisation of the technology and promote interoperability among participating companies. Its founding members include Easelink, Audi, Nissan and Voyah.
Standardisation could influence whether the technology can be adopted across different vehicle platforms and charging installations. The extent of adoption will depend on technical compatibility, automaker participation and commercial deployment.
Easelink Expands Its Licensing Network
Easelink has also signed a licensing partnership with SEG Automotive, a supplier headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany. Under that arrangement, SEG Automotive plans to incorporate Matrix Charging technology into its own product portfolio while participating in initial OEM projects.
SEG Automotive was formed in 2018 from Bosch’s starter and generator business and is now part of China’s ZMJ Group. Its activities include powertrain and electrification components.
Easelink founder and CEO Hermann Stockinger said the Luxshare agreement would support the company’s work with Chinese customers and automotive supply chains.
“We are delighted to collaborate with such a globally significant player as Luxshare, a complementary partner with strong engineering know-how. Together, we will will focus on serving local customers in China and integrate Matrix Charging® into existing value chains within the automotive industry. This partnership marks an important milestone in our growing presence in China and is central building block in our mission to set the global industry standard for automated charging.”
The Luxshare agreement adds a China-focused partner to Easelink’s licensing strategy. The companies have not yet announced production timelines or confirmed when vehicles equipped with Matrix Charging will reach the market.
