EarthCruiser, a recognized name in the overlanding community, has unveiled an intriguing adaptation: a pop-top camper version designed for the GMC Hummer EV. This retrofit aims to merge the capabilities of the all-electric pickup with the conveniences of a fully-fledged camper, presenting outdoor enthusiasts with a fresh avenue for self-sufficient exploration.
Lance Gillies, the CEO and Founder of EarthCruiser, expressed satisfaction in partnering with GMC for this endeavor. “It feels right, it feels like it belongs,” Gillies remarked, underscoring the collaboration’s seamless integration of EarthCruiser’s expertise with the GMC Hummer EV’s framework. The result is a camper that prides itself on efficiency and practicality, minimizing redundancy in its design.
Central to this collaboration is the metamorphosis of the GMC Hummer EV into the EarthCruiser version, which comfortably accommodates two occupants. The addition of a carbon fiber topper not only expands the available space but introduces a tri-layer design, offering enhanced insulation to ensure occupants’ comfort in varying weather conditions.
In its retracted state, the camper maintains a height of 90 inches (229 cm). Fully extended, this height reaches 117 inches (297 cm), providing ample headroom with 80 inches (203 cm) at the entry, 76 inches (193 cm) in the hallway, and 35 inches (89 cm) in the sleeping area, which boasts a full-size RV mattress.
Distinguishing itself further, the pop-top tent features a 605W solar panel atop its structure, accompanied by a robust 6 kWh of 12V lithium-ion batteries. This power setup caters to essential appliances, including a refrigerator, freezer, and induction cooktop, ensuring up to a week of operation without reliance on external power sources.
For those seeking a refreshing cleanse amidst their outdoor pursuits, an outdoor shower linked to a 13.5-gallon (51-liter) fresh water tank offers practicality. This same water source serves the sink, providing campers access to clean drinking water both inside and outside the camper.
EarthCruiser has also considered storage needs by incorporating compartments inside and outside the Hummer EV camper. Additionally, a seven-inch touchscreen serves as the command hub, allowing control over interior and exterior lighting and other crucial functions.
While specific figures regarding weight and cost remain undisclosed, enthusiasts eager to acquire this innovative variant can secure their spot through a $100 deposit for pre-orders on EarthCruiser’s official website. The expected availability to customers in 2024, exclusively through EarthCruiser, should be noted, as the unique modifications fall outside GM’s warranty coverage.
As the realms of automotive technology and outdoor exploration converge, the EarthCruiser GMC Hummer EV embodies a significant step toward aligning electrification with adventure. With its impending release, anticipation grows for the potential of embarking on self-sustained journeys fueled by ingenuity and the allure of the unknown.
