DSV Singapore Acquires Two Volvo Electric Trucks for Sustainable Logistics

DSV Air & Sea Singapore has made a significant move towards sustainable logistics by taking delivery of two new Volvo electric trucks. This acquisition aligns with the Singapore Green Plan 2030, emphasizing the shared commitment of DSV and Volvo Trucks to reduce carbon emissions in the transportation sector.

The newly acquired trucks include the Volvo FL Electric, designed for urban distribution, and the Volvo FM Electric, tailored for long-haul operations. This initiative supports Singapore’s sustainable development goals and reflects DSV’s ambition to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 while actively expanding its electric vehicle fleet. As part of the deal, Volvo Trucks has provided a 7-year Gold Service Agreement to ensure comprehensive support and maintenance for the new vehicles.

Volvo Trucks is one of the world’s leading manufacturers in electromobility, with approximately 4,200 electric trucks operating across 46 countries. DSV, recognized as the largest global transport and logistics company, is also one of Volvo Trucks’ largest purchasers of electric models, having signed an agreement earlier this year for 300 new electric trucks for its European operations.

The Volvo FL Electric, optimized for urban environments, features a compact design and a nimble turning radius, making it ideal for navigating Singapore’s densely populated areas and facilitating last-mile deliveries. In contrast, the larger Volvo FM Electric provides greater payload capacity and advanced technology for longer journeys while maintaining high performance and zero-emission capabilities. Both models are equipped with an all-electric drivetrain, enabling quieter operations and significantly reducing noise pollution. They also offer cost-efficient operation and lower maintenance costs compared to traditional diesel vehicles, with specific modifications made to meet DSV’s operational needs in Singapore.

Looking ahead, Volvo Trucks plans to expand the electrification of heavy trucks globally with the anticipated launch of a long-range version of its FH Electric truck in 2025. This new model is expected to travel up to 600 kilometers on a single charge, allowing for longer routes without the need for frequent recharging. The extended range will be facilitated by Volvo’s innovative e-axle technology, which increases battery capacity and improves efficiency, management systems, and overall powertrain performance.

Anna Engblom, Managing Director of Volvo Trucks for Southeast Asia and Japan, emphasized the importance of long-lasting partnerships and a commitment to impactful change. She stated that to achieve substantial CO2 reductions in practice, it is essential to adapt business models and deliver high-quality products that help customers achieve profitability with their Volvo trucks.
