DS Automobiles will withdraw from the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship after the 2025/26 season, ending more than a decade of participation as part of a broader strategic shift by parent company Stellantis.
The French brand, one of the most successful teams in Formula E history, has competed in eleven of the championship’s twelve seasons, securing four titles, 18 race wins, 55 podium finishes and 26 pole positions.
“At the end of Season 12 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, the Stellantis group’s French brand is evolving its sporting and technological strategy,” Stellantis said in a statement.
The company said DS will redirect its motorsport activities toward competitive sailing through a partnership with the SailGP Team France, starting in January 2026. Stellantis described sailing as a platform for technological experimentation.
“Competition sailing is a particularly rich laboratory for experimenting with new approaches,” the group said, citing areas such as aerodynamic efficiency, drag reduction, lightweight composite materials and software development as relevant to automotive innovation.
Stellantis noted that Formula E has played a role in advancing technologies for road vehicles, but suggested the potential for further gains may now be limited for DS.
Despite DS’s exit, Stellantis will remain involved in Formula E. Opel will replace DS from the 2026/27 season, fielding two Opel GSE race cars under a four-year commitment.
The move follows Stellantis’ broader motorsport restructuring, which has also seen Citroën return to international racing, taking over a slot previously held by Maserati within the group’s Formula E operations.
