Dongfeng has introduced its latest offering to the electric vehicle market in China with the launch of the eπ 008, a new three-row electric SUV. The eπ brand, which was unveiled by Dongfeng in April 2023, aims to establish itself as a mainstream player in the EV market.
The eπ 008, measuring 5,002 mm long, 1,972 mm wide, and 1,732 mm tall, is a spacious SUV with a 3,025 mm wheelbase and a 2+2+2 seating layout. It is powered by a single motor located on the rear axle, producing 200 kW and 340 Nm of torque. The motor is paired with an 82.28 kWh battery pack, which can be fast-charged from 30 to 80% in just 28 minutes using a DC charger. According to CLTC, the eπ 008 has a range of 636 km on a full charge.
Customers also have the option to purchase the eπ 008 as an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV), which features a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine alongside the electric motor. The EREV variant comes with a smaller 34.32 kWh battery pack and can travel 210 km solely on electric power, with a combined range of 1,300 km.
The eπ 008 boasts a range of features, including slim three-element headlights, an illuminated faux upper grille, powered flush-fitted door handles, 21-inch two-tone alloy wheels, and a full-width tail light. It also supports vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V), vehicle-to-load (V2L), and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) bi-directional charging functions in both EV and EREV variants.
Inside, the eπ 008 offers a luxurious experience with a two-spoke steering wheel, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and seats with memory, ventilation, and heating functions. The second row features individual seats with similar functions, including a massage function and an electrically operated leg rest on the right-side seat. Second-row passengers also benefit from a slide-out fridge and pop-up cup holders, as well as a roof-mounted 15.6-inch fold-down display for entertainment. The third row consists of a bench seat with reading lights, cup holders, and charging ports.
The eπ 008 is priced at 216,600 yuan (27,793 euros) in both EV and EREV variants, offering customers a versatile and feature-packed electric SUV option in the Chinese market.
