Chinese automaker Dongfeng Motor and technology group Huawei said their jointly developed automotive brand Yijing has produced its first pre-production prototype, marking a key step toward mass production planned for next year.
The company said on Wednesday that the vehicle has moved into a new stage of product validation and quality optimisation following the rollout of the prototype from the production line.
Yijing’s first model will be a full-size sport utility vehicle and is scheduled to make its public debut at the Beijing Auto Show in 2026, according to the brand.
The Yijing project was previously known internally as the “DH Project.” In January, Dongfeng and Huawei signed a strategic cooperation agreement focused on intelligent vehicles, formally launching the initiative. The partnership was further strengthened in September with the opening of a joint laboratory dedicated to in-vehicle software, artificial intelligence and related technologies.
In late October, teams from Huawei and the DH project held coordination meetings in Wuhan, Dongfeng’s headquarters city, to accelerate the integration of Huawei’s latest intelligent technologies into upcoming Yijing models.
The Yijing rollout comes as Huawei deepens its collaboration with Chinese automakers through multiple brand partnerships. In parallel, Huawei is working with GAC Group on a separate premium brand, Qijing, which has announced plans for a shooting brake-style coupe as its first model.
Both Yijing and Qijing follow a broader strategy under Huawei’s Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance, under which five new automotive brands have already been launched in cooperation with domestic carmakers. The model reflects a growing trend in China’s auto industry, where manufacturers are pairing traditional vehicle engineering with advanced software and intelligent driving capabilities to compete in the rapidly evolving electric and smart vehicle market.
