Denza, the luxury vehicle brand under BYD, has auctioned a custom-designed Denza Z9GT created in collaboration with Chopard at the amfAR Gala in Cannes.
The one-off Denza Z9GT Chopard edition sold for €700,000 ($812,490) during the 32nd edition of the charity event, which is held annually alongside the Cannes Film Festival to raise funds for AIDS research.
BYD said the collaboration reflects the company’s strategy of combining automotive technology with European luxury design as Denza expands its presence in overseas premium vehicle markets.
The vehicle was presented as a bespoke luxury model incorporating design elements inspired by Chopard’s jewelry and watchmaking portfolio.
According to the companies, the interior control area features amethyst inlays, while the seats include exclusive embroidery and headrests carrying Chopard’s “C” emblem.
The collaboration also extends to the vehicle’s digital interface, with custom Chopard branding integrated into the infotainment system and wireless charging area.
The auction package additionally included a pair of exclusive watches created jointly by Denza and Chopard using 18-carat rose gold, along with a handcrafted luggage set.
The vehicle also features a 20-speaker audio system developed by Devialet.
Despite the luxury-focused design, the Z9GT retains BYD’s high-performance electric drivetrain technology.
The model uses BYD’s tri-motor powertrain system with a maximum output exceeding 1,150 horsepower and acceleration from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in 2.7 seconds, according to the company.
BYD said the vehicle also supports its latest fast-charging technology, enabling battery charging from 10% to 97% in approximately nine minutes.
Stella Li, executive vice president of BYD, said the collaboration demonstrates how advanced automotive technology can integrate with luxury design.
She said the partnership elevated “an exceptional creation to an even higher realm.”
Caroline Scheufele, co-president of Chopard, said the project reflected a shared focus on craftsmanship and emotion in luxury products.
“True luxury lies in emotion and detail,” Scheufele said, adding that the companies had transformed the vehicle into “a piece of jewelry riding the wind.”
The collaboration forms part of Denza’s broader expansion into the European market.
Last month, Denza officially introduced the Z9GT to Europe during an event at the Palais Garnier in Paris.
BYD said the standard Z9GT carries a starting price of around €115,000 in Europe, while the updated Chinese-market version launched earlier this year starts at 269,800 yuan ($39,700) for the battery-electric variant.
The company is seeking to strengthen Denza’s position in the global luxury vehicle market through partnerships with established European luxury brands.
