Europe welcomes the arrival of the highly anticipated 2023 Decathlon Rockrider E-EXPL 500 S and 520 S electric mountain bikes. These e-bikes were initially unveiled late last year and have finally made their way to the European market. With a 500 Wh battery, riders can enjoy an impressive range of approximately 64 km (about 40 miles), which can be extended by an additional 44 km (around 27 miles) with the help of an extender. Both models offer a top assistance speed of 25 kph (approximately 16 mph).

Distinguishing the two electric bicycles is the powertrain setup. The 500 S features a mid-mounted BROSE DRIVE C engine, delivering 50 Nm of torque. On the other hand, the 520 S boasts a more potent BROSE DRIVE T motor, capable of generating a maximum torque of 70 Nm. Additionally, the suspension systems also differ between the two models. The 500 S is equipped with a SUNTOUR XCM fork and an X-FUSION O2 PRO damper, each offering a travel distance of 130 mm. In contrast, the 520 S comes with an X-FUSION MCQUEEN R fork and an X-FUSION O2 PRO R damper, both providing 140 mm of travel. Hydraulic brakes come as standard on both models, ensuring reliable stopping power. Furthermore, riders can conveniently select from five assistance modes and benefit from Bluetooth connectivity through the ERGO 900 TFT color display.

Crafted with a 6061 aluminum frame, the new Rockrider bikes strike a perfect balance between durability and weight. The medium-sized 500 S weighs in at 26.2 kg (approximately 57.8 lbs), while its counterpart, the 520 S, tips the scales at 24.4 kg (around 53.8 lbs).

Excitingly, the 2023 Decathlon Rockrider E-EXPL 500 S and Rockrider E-EXPL 520 S e-MTBs are now available for purchase in various European countries, including the Netherlands. The 500 S is priced at €2,509.99, while the 520 S is slightly higher at €2,779.99. Unfortunately, it remains uncertain whether these electric bicycles will be launched in other markets, such as the United States, and if so, when that might happen.
