Daimler Buses has been commissioned by Swiss public transport operator Sihltal Zürich Uetliberg Bahn (SZU) to plan and implement charging infrastructure at the Rütihof bus depot in Wädenswil on Lake Zurich. The project will equip the existing depot with electric bus charging facilities by 2026.
Under the contract, Daimler Buses will install several charging stations in existing depot buildings to enable daytime and overnight charging. A digital load and charging management system will also be integrated to optimize energy distribution.
In its final phase, the project will deliver 43 CCS2 charging points with up to 150 kW capacity per vehicle. Daimler Buses said the installation will cost CHF 7.3 million (around EUR 7.8 million). The scope includes transformer stations with multiple transformers connected to the existing medium-voltage power line.
This marks the fourth electric bus depot Daimler Buses has delivered as a total contractor in Switzerland. Previous projects have ranged from 10 to 28 charging points and involved integrating infrastructure into existing depots across the country.
Alongside the charging network, SZU’s subsidiary AHW Busbetriebe has ordered 13 Mercedes-Benz eCitaro solo and articulated buses. Deliveries are scheduled in stages from the fourth quarter of 2026 through the first quarter of 2027. Daimler Buses recently secured a similar order in Leipzig, Germany, and has rolled out a new digital service package that will be applied to both projects.
