Compleo UK has secured a contract to install more than 500 electric vehicle chargers in the London borough of Islington to support the council’s transition to an all-electric fleet, with a particular emphasis on its waste and recycling operations.
The charging infrastructure will include a mix of AC and DC units, although the company has not disclosed the exact distribution. The first installations are set to begin early this year, with all 550-plus chargers expected to be completed within two years.

“We’re thrilled to support such a forward-thinking council such as Islington,” said Matthew Downs, Head of Business Development at Compleo UK. “They are always looking ahead for sustainable solutions, and we’re proud to supply them with future-proof EV charging solutions.”
Most of the chargers will be located at Cottage Road, Islington, to accommodate the borough’s waste and recycling fleet. The council has not specified the exact number or power capacity of the units. Islington has been steadily advancing the electrification of its fleet, having previously installed hundreds of vehicle chargers in 2023 to support both small EVs and large 26-tonne refuse collection vehicles.
