Citroen has announced an update for its charming electric vehicle, the Ami, which has captured the attention of over 65,000 customers since its launch in 2020. The quirky, Lego-like design of the Ami is receiving a fresh look and features a playful nod to the iconic Citroen 2CV with its mid-lifecycle update for 2025.
Unveiled at the Paris Motor Show 2024, the updated Ami showcases significant aesthetic enhancements alongside the introduction of the Ami Buggy Vision concept. The new model sports a reworked front and rear design, including larger lighting units, sturdier bumpers, and the newly redesigned Citroen logo. The headlights, now framed by black trim resembling eyelids, give the vehicle a more expressive face.
While the Ami’s silhouette remains largely unchanged, subtle details set it apart. New faux gills on the front right fender pay homage to the classic 2CV and are mirrored on the rear left fender, while the updated wheel covers feature a distinctive checkerboard pattern, further enhancing the Ami’s unique charm.
Despite the visual upgrades, the 2025 Ami will continue to operate with the same mechanical specifications. It retains the modest 8 horsepower electric motor paired with a 5.5 kWh battery, which makes it ideal for short journeys—perfect for city driving or quick trips to the bakery.
The updated Citroen Ami is expected to hit the market in the first half of 2025, with pricing details set to be announced closer to its launch date.
Alongside the production model, Citroen revealed the Ami Buggy Vision concept, designed to embody a more adventurous spirit. This beach-inspired version of the Ami features a striking midnight blue paint job, complemented by a white roof, black decals, and yellow-tinted headlights.
The Buggy Vision concept embraces open-air driving with a unique design, replacing traditional doors with metal tubes and including a canvas sunroof. It rides on rugged high-wall tires with flared fenders and is equipped with a roof-mounted LED light bar and a whimsical rear spoiler.
Thoughtful design elements include special mounts for a kite surfboard on the tube doors and a dedicated compartment for kite sail storage. The interior is outfitted with new quilted seat cushions and features upholstery with an Infrared shade, a concept first introduced in the Oli.
Although there are currently no plans for mass production of the Buggy Vision, the success of previous limited editions like the My Ami Buggy suggests that a more practical version could eventually be offered to the public.
Citroen also presented its “Ami Tower” at the Paris Motor Show, featuring special editions such as the My Ami for All, My Ami Rose Festival, and My Ami Pep. The Ami continues to be a standout in the quadricycle segment, sharing the spotlight with its Stellantis counterparts, the Fiat Topolino and Opel Rocks Electric.
