Hongqi, the car brand owned by Chinese state-owned company FAW, is set to introduce its EH7 electric saloon to the European market this year. Sales partner Hedin has announced plans for the EH7’s sales launch in the third quarter, with first deliveries expected in the fourth quarter.
The move follows Hongqi’s announcement at the Beijing motor show in April, where the company revealed its intentions to export its electric cars to global markets in the coming years. Targeting the premium segment, Hongqi aims to compete with established brands like Audi, BMW, and Mercedes.
The EH7 electric saloon, measuring five meters in length, will be available in Europe with rear or all-wheel drive and two battery options (85 and 111 kWh). While specific details such as prices and official WLTP range values are pending, reports suggest that the rear-wheel-drive version with the larger battery could offer a range of up to 700 kilometers.
Simon Fransson, CEO of Hedin, expressed excitement about the EH7’s range capabilities, stating, “We are thrilled to introduce a new standard for range in the large sedan segment. The EH7 will be a strong competitor and speak especially to those who are looking for a spacious, powerful vehicle with outstanding range.”
In China, the Hongqi EH7 comes in five drive versions, offering a maximum output of 253 kW and a choice of 75, 85, or 111 kWh batteries. The manufacturer claims a maximum range of 820 kilometers according to the Chinese test cycle and a maximum charging power of 365 kW.
Hongqi, known for building vehicles for Chinese state representatives, markets its electric cars under the sub-brand Hongqi New Energy. The EH7 is the first model under this unit, with plans for a convertible version also in the works. Additionally, Hongqi unveiled three electric concept cars – E702, E009, and E007 – signaling its commitment to expanding its electric vehicle lineup.
