In 2024, China’s new-energy bus exports saw a substantial increase, with 15,444 units shipped abroad, marking a 28.3% year-on-year growth. This growth mirrors the rising demand for new-energy vehicles (NEVs) globally, with BYD solidifying its dominance in the sector.
The export figures, compiled by China Bus, include a variety of buses over 3.5 meters in length, such as city buses, intercity buses, and minibuses.

The statistics cover NEVs with battery-electric, plug-in hybrid, and fuel cell drives, but no further breakdown by drive type or destination market is provided. A strong December performance, with a 47.9% increase compared to the same month in 2023, contributed significantly to the overall yearly growth.
BYD led the NEV bus export market in 2024, delivering 3,582 units internationally, making it the only manufacturer to exceed 3,000 exports. Yutong and Higer followed in second and third place, with 2,700 and 1,897 units exported, respectively.

Yutong, in particular, saw an impressive 84.5% increase in foreign sales, while Higer’s exports rose by 49.1%. The market also witnessed significant growth from Dongfeng Special Automobile and CRRC Electric Vehicle, with year-over-year increases of 525% and 366%, respectively, driven by a low base in the previous year.
This surge in exports reflects the growing global interest in clean transportation solutions, with Chinese manufacturers like BYD, Yutong, and Higer positioning themselves as key players in the electric bus market.
