General Motors’ Chevrolet brand will launch the 2027 Bolt with redesigned styling, updated technology, and a new battery system, while dropping the “EV” suffix from its name, according to sources cited by GM Authority.
The revised naming simplifies the hatchback’s identity, which previously distinguished it from the now-discontinued Volt plug-in hybrid and the Bolt EUV crossover. Chevrolet plans for the streamlined Bolt to maintain its position as the brand’s most affordable all-electric model.

The next-generation Bolt will feature a new lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with a capacity of 60 to 70 kWh, offering lower production costs compared with nickel-rich chemistries. It will also include an updated electric motor and a native NACS charging port, enabling direct compatibility with Tesla Superchargers without an adapter.
Externally, the 2027 Bolt sports a sharper front end with a trapezoidal lower grille and angular detailing, combined rear lighting, and textured black cladding on the bumper. Inside, the hatchback will include an 11-inch digital driver instrument cluster, similar to the one found in the Chevy Equinox EV, along with other interior updates.

Production of the 2027 Bolt is scheduled to begin later this year at GM’s Fairfax Assembly plant in Kansas.
