Chinese automaker Chery has introduced two new models for export, showcasing its commitment to global markets. The electric saloon, Chery Exeed Exlantix ES, and the plug-in hybrid SUV, Omoda 7, were revealed, heralding a new chapter in Chery’s international expansion.
The Exeed Exlantix ES, known as the Sterra ES in China, features distinct design elements for the export version, including a revamped front with new headlight design and sportier hubcaps. The model is based on the E0X platform, shared with its sister model, the Luxeed S7, developed in partnership with Huawei. The platform supports both 800 and 400-volt system architectures, promising versatile performance options.
Chery has not disclosed the specific markets for the Exeed Exlantix ES but aims to target regions where its unique design and technical specifications can make a significant impact. The company boasts a range of battery options, varying between 60.5 and 97.7 kWh, and drive versions, including two single-engine variants (185 or 230 kW) and an all-wheel-drive version (230 kW + 123 kW). The car offers a remarkable range of up to 905 kilometres according to the Chinese test cycle, with a drag coefficient of 0.205 cW.
The Omoda 7 SUV, part of Chery’s expanding Omoda brand, features a plug-in hybrid drive with a maximum output of 115 kW and an electric range of 95 kilometres. This model expands Chery’s presence in the SUV segment, offering customers a blend of efficiency and performance.
Chery’s move to manufacture cars in Europe, specifically at the former Nissan plant in Barcelona, underscores its commitment to the region. The company’s expansion into Europe includes plans to introduce a variety of models and drive types, distinguishing itself from other Chinese automakers by offering petrol and hybrid models alongside electric vehicles.
