Chery is set to enhance its Omoda 5 sub-compact SUV lineup in Australia with the upcoming debut of the all-electric Omoda E5. Scheduled to hit showrooms by mid-year, this new model marks Chery’s entry into the electric vehicle segment Down Under.
While specific local specifications are yet to be unveiled, Chery has disclosed that the Omoda E5 will feature a single electric motor capable of producing 150 kW (201 hp) and 340 Nm (251 lb-ft) of torque.

Although the battery pack’s size remains undisclosed, the E5 is expected to achieve an impressive efficiency of 15.5 kWh/100 km over the combined cycle, providing an estimated WLTP range of up to 430 km (267 miles). The international variants of the Omoda E5 come equipped with a 61 kWh battery pack, showcasing the model’s potential for robust performance.
The Omoda E5 is anticipated to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a swift 7.6 seconds, delivering a dynamic driving experience typical of SUVs in its class.
Chery will offer two versions of the Omoda E5, the Standard and the Premium, although specific details regarding the differences between these models have not yet been released. However, it has been confirmed that the E5 will boast a 12.3-inch curved infotainment display, a panoramic sunroof, a digital instrument cluster, and a wide array of exterior and interior color options.
Lucas Harris, managing director of Chery Australia, expressed his enthusiasm for the Omoda E5’s impending launch, stating, “With its combination of unique design, impressive range, and advanced features, we are confident the Omoda E5 will be a popular choice for Australian consumers who are increasingly seeking sustainable vehicle options.”

Visually, the Omoda E5 closely resembles its combustion engine-powered counterpart, with the most notable difference being the absence of a traditional grille. Instead, it features a large flap that conceals the charging port, adding a distinctive touch to its design.
While pricing details for the Omoda E5 have not yet been announced, it is expected that the electric variant will command a premium over the ICE model, which currently starts at AU$32,99 (~$21,300) and tops out at AU$35,990 (~$23,300).
