Changan Automobile’s new energy vehicle (NEV) division, Deepal, has launched its latest model, the S05 compact SUV. Unveiled on October 20 in Chongqing, the S05 is Deepal’s second new release in just three months and is available in both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) configurations.
The starting price for the model is RMB 119,900 ($16,880), with deliveries beginning immediately. To reassure customers, Deepal has committed to compensating those who experience delayed deliveries.
The S05 offers a range of options, including four BEV variants and two EREV variants, reflecting the company’s strategy of catering to consumers transitioning to electrified vehicles. The BEV versions are priced between RMB 119,900 and RMB 145,900, while the EREV variants start at RMB 139,900 and RMB 149,900.
Measuring 4,620 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,600 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,880 mm, the Deepal S05 boasts a spacious design. The BEV variant is powered by a 175 kW electric motor, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds. It comes equipped with a 56.12 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, offering a CLTC range of 510 km.
The EREV version, on the other hand, is powered by a 1.5 L engine with a system output of 160 kW and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds. Its 27.28 kWh battery provides a pure electric range of 200 km, while the total driving range, including the fuel engine, reaches 1,234 km.
Deepal, Changan’s dedicated NEV brand launched in 2022, first entered the market with the SL03, positioned as a competitor to the Tesla Model 3. Following the release of the S07 SUV in July, Deepal’s introduction of the S05 underscores the company’s ambition to strengthen its foothold in the competitive NEV market.
