A day before BYD’s anticipated smart driving strategy event, Changan Automobile revealed its own automotive intelligence roadmap, aiming to offer more affordable vehicles equipped with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
On February 9, Changan introduced its “Dubhe Plan 2.0,” outlining a strategy to phase out non-intelligent vehicle models and launch 35 intelligent models within the next three years. This move comes as part of a broader initiative to make smart driving technology more accessible.

As part of its plan, Changan will begin equipping vehicles priced at around RMB 100,000 ($13,700) with LiDAR starting in August. This technology will enable automatic emergency braking (AEB) even at speeds of up to 135 km/h. The automaker also aims to achieve full-scenario Level 3 (L3) autonomous driving by 2026 and full-scenario Level 4 (L4) autonomy by 2028.
Over the next three years, Changan’s Nevo sub-brand is set to release 10 affordable models, while its Deepal sub-brand will launch 10 products, including compact sedans and large SUVs. The premium Avatr sub-brand will introduce seven models, primarily consisting of mid-to-large-size SUVs and sedans.

Changan’s efforts to develop intelligent vehicles date back to its “Dubhe Plan 1.0,” launched in 2018, which set the foundation for its internet-connected vehicles with ADAS features by 2020. The company sees the new phase of Dubhe Plan 2.0 as its third major business venture and is committed to delivering a major push towards intelligent mobility. The automaker targets five million units in overall sales by 2030, with a focus on four million units under its own brands, of which three million are expected to be smart vehicles.
This announcement comes as BYD prepares to unveil its own vehicle intelligence strategy, which includes the launch of 11 models equipped with its “God’s Eye” advanced driver assistance system. Both Changan and BYD’s moves are expected to accelerate the development of the smart driving era by making intelligent driving systems more widely available in the mass market.
