Changan Automobile, one of China’s leading automotive manufacturers, is making a strategic move into the thriving electric vehicle (EV) segment. The company’s new sub-brand, Qiyuan (启源), recently unveiled a glimpse of its debut model, the Qiyuan A07, through a series of images shared on Weibo. While the Qiyuan brand has yet to be officially launched, it has already established a presence on various social media platforms.
Yesterday, Qiyuan made its initial Weibo post, featuring an exciting preview video showcasing the Qiyuan A07. Although further details about the A07 were not disclosed, the model had previously appeared in the filing catalog of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
According to the filing, the Qiyuan A07 is a mid to large-size sedan boasting dimensions of 4,905 mm in length, 1,910 mm in width, and 1,480 mm in height, with a wheelbase measuring 2,900 mm. Comparatively, Changan’s Qiyuan A07 is slightly smaller than BYD’s flagship sedan, the Han EV, which measures 4,995 mm in length, 1,910 mm in width, 1,495 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,920 mm.
Following in the footsteps of Changan’s Deepal sub-brand, the Qiyuan A07 will be available in both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants.
The Qiyuan A07 BEV variant will feature an electric motor with a peak power output of 190 kW, mirroring the Deepal SL03 BEV. Meanwhile, the Qiyuan A07 EREV will incorporate a peak electric motor output of 160 kW, utilizing the same range-extender as the Deepal SL03, along with a 1.5L displacement and a power output of 70 kW.
In terms of battery capacity, the Qiyuan A07 BEV will offer two options: 58.1 kWh and 79.97 kWh, resulting in CLTC ranges of 515 km and 710 km, respectively. On the other hand, the Qiyuan A07 EREV will feature a 28.39 kWh battery pack, providing a battery range of 170 km.
Changan Automobile reported total sales of 244,996 units in May, including vehicles from joint venture brands. Notably, new energy vehicles (NEVs) accounted for 35,934 units, contributing to 14.7 percent of the overall sales figures for the month. In the same period, Changan’s Deepal sub-brand recorded 7,021 unit sales, resulting in cumulative sales of 33,585 units from January to May.
As Changan Automobile strengthens its presence in the electric vehicle market, the anticipation surrounding the official launch of the Qiyuan sub-brand and the unveiling of the Qiyuan A07 sedan continues to grow. With the introduction of these new offerings, Changan aims to capitalize on the increasing demand for sustainable transportation and establish itself as a key player in the EV sector.
