Volvo Trucks has supplied CEMEX with its first fully electric and zero-emissions heavy-duty concrete mixer truck. This battery electric truck is a result of a 2021 agreement between Volvo and CEMEX to collaborate globally in electromobility solutions for reduced carbon emissions and improved productivity.
At a recent event in Berlin, Germany, the Volvo FMX electric heavy-duty truck was handed over to CEMEX. It has the ability to complete a full day’s work with just one top-up charge during the regular break. The truck will begin operating at a ready-mix concrete plant in Spandau, Berlin, starting this month. The electrification of concrete transportation presents a challenge due to the heavy loads and continuous mixing demands. However, Volvo Trucks and CEMEX are working together to develop and scale the technologies necessary to make emissions-free transport a reality in the demanding construction industry.

“We are thrilled to take this important step in our partnership with CEMEX. Both our companies have set ambitious sustainability targets and collaboration is the key to achieving them. We will work together to implement emission-free transport in the construction industry,” says Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks. “Our electric trucks produce no emissions and their quiet operation also creates a better environment for workers at construction sites and nearby residents.”
“CEMEX is committed to becoming a net-zero CO2 company and innovation and collaboration are at the heart of this goal. Our partnership with Volvo has tremendous potential to help decarbonize our business. The rollout of our first fully electric ready-mix truck is a significant progress in that direction,” says Fernando A. GonzĆ”lez, CEO of CEMEX.
CEMEX and Volvo Group are founding members of the First Movers coalition, a collaboration between the World Economic Forum and US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry, for companies to make purchasing commitments to create demand for low-carbon technologies. Both Volvo Trucks and CEMEX are committed to reaching their ambitious sustainability targets and contributing to the decarbonization of the global economy.
