Volvo Trucks North America (VTNA) one of the leading manufacturers of heavy-duty Volvo trucks in North America has opened the Volvo Trucks Academy facility to expand access to electric truck training in the United States (US).

The new 14,865-square-foot facility in Tinley Park, Illinois, USA allows Volvo Trucks to provide more powerful hands-on learning opportunities for customers and dealers interested in electromobility solutions, including the Volvo VNR Electric model.

Leanne Fitzpatrick, Strategic Program Manager at Volvo Trucks Academy explained that this facility will help provide robust sales and service training to Volvo Trucks dealer partners to become Volvo Trucks certified electric vehicle (EV) dealers and to support customers with their zero-emissions transportation goals.

“As interest in the Volvo VNR Electric model continues to grow across North America, the Tinley Park facility will play a critical role in servicing dealers and customers in the central US, as it is easily accessible from O'Hare and Midway airports. (30/5/2022).

This academy facility at Tinley Park will provide technicians with proper training and understanding of all safety procedures when servicing drivetrains and high-voltage electrical components.

Other courses will focus on sales and operating support of the Volvo VNR Electric, in addition to offering advanced guidance for diesel trucks, such as engine overhaul, transmission design and function, and parts sales and warranties.

Meanwhile Volvo Trucks' EV certified dealer program is also designed to ensure that sales representatives are fully trained to consult with customers considering using a Volvo VNR Electric to ensure they select a technically feasible model configuration based on their operating requirements.

On the aftermarket side, dealer certification ensures technicians have the necessary vehicle diagnostic tools and the necessary technical training to maintain the drivetrain and electrical components.

Volvo Trucks currently has certified dealers in the US in California, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia, as well as in Quebec, Canada, with dealers in several additional states completing their certification throughout 2022.

For your information, the Volvo VNR Electric is a heavy duty truck designed for local and regional distribution ranges and has received upgrades since January 2022 such as the option of an optional six battery pack with increased energy storage to 565 kWh and an operational range of up to 442 km.
