Nick Cassidy delivered a strategy-driven victory at the Mexico City E-Prix, charging from 13th on the grid to claim the win and hand Citroen its first Formula E triumph in only the manufacturer’s second race in the all-electric series.
The New Zealander, racing for the French marque in its debut Formula E season, capitalised on energy conservation and a carefully timed use of Attack Mode to take the chequered flag at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

The result followed Cassidy’s third-place finish in the season-opening round in Sao Paulo, underlining a strong early showing for Citroen. Edoardo Mortara finished second, while reigning champion Oliver Rowland completed the podium in a tightly contested race.

The event marked Formula E’s 150th championship race and followed a turbulent qualifying session. Taylor Barnard initially set the fastest time but lost it due to a track-limit violation, handing pole position to Sebastien Buemi. The Envision driver’s race unravelled at the first corner after a braking error sent him into the escape road, allowing Barnard to assume the lead amid frequent position changes as drivers focused on saving energy.

Early aggression came from Pascal Wehrlein, who surged from eighth to first by lap five. Explaining his approach, the Porsche driver said his aim was “to control the race from the opening tours,” believing that overtaking would later become difficult. That strategy proved costly, however, as Wehrlein slipped back once his initial four-minute Attack Mode expired, highlighting the importance of patience in the energy-limited contest.
The race was shaped by interruptions, including a safety car triggered when Nyck de Vries went off at Turn 1 with an apparent mechanical issue, and a later collision involving Antonio Felix da Costa, Maximilian Gunther and Dan Ticktum.

Cassidy’s decisive move came in the closing stages, when he deployed his full eight minutes of Attack Mode, edging past rivals despite late pressure from Mortara. Cassidy ultimately held firm to secure his 12th career Formula E win, with Rowland benefiting from the close battle ahead to move into third.
