Yangwang, the ultra-luxury division of Chinese automaker BYD, has marked a significant milestone with cumulative deliveries of its flagship supercar, the U9, reaching 100 units, the company announced on Weibo.
“This is a historic achievement reached for the first time by a Chinese supercar,” Yangwang stated, highlighting the breakthrough for domestic brands in a highly competitive and niche market.
The U9, officially launched on February 25, 2024, comes in a single two-seater variant priced at RMB 1.68 million ($230,870). It stands as BYD’s most expensive model and one of the few supercars produced by a Chinese automaker, underscoring Yangwang’s ambition to establish a foothold in the ultra-luxury segment.
Equipped with a powertrain delivering 1,306 Ps of horsepower and 1,680 Nm of torque, the U9 can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in a mere 2.36 seconds. These specifications place it among the elite of supercars, aiming to challenge international players in the segment.

Despite the limited size of the global supercar market and the barriers faced by Chinese brands in gaining acceptance, Yangwang’s U9 sets a precedent as a homegrown contender.
